Additions & Renovations
National Headquarters Building
American College of Physicians
American Society of Internal Medicine
190 North Independence Mall West
Philadelphia Pennsylvania
Architect: Ballinger, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
This ten story addition to the present College building included:
- Three new traction passenger elevators, 3000 pounds @ 350 feet per minute serving ten floors
- One new traction service elevator, 4000 pounds @ 200 feet per minute serving ten floors
- One new hydraulic passenger elevator, 2500 pounds @ 150 feet per minute serving four floors
We worked very closely with Ballinger through several design changes as this project developed.
By being able to quickly revise our traffic study for the building we were able to review the
advantages or disadvantages of each design. We also provided drawings detailing the space
requirements, and anticipated structural, electrical, and heat load information for each design
concept. The information provided included the requirements of the major elevator companies
in the Philadelphia market. This approach not only ensures that the project is provided with
the best, state of the art, elevator equipment, but that it also takes advantage of the most
favorable pricing by allowing the elevator contractor to use his standard designs where
appropriate. We also prepared the final elevator specification sections (14210 & 14240) in
Microsoft Word for convenient incorporation into Ballinger’s master specification.
